Le esplorazioni subacquee, molto tecniche ed impegnative, sono state condotte da numerosi speleo-subacquei di diversi gruppi nazionali ed internazionali. La prima immersione, di cui si ha notizia certa, è stata effettuata da uno speleosub del Circolo Idrologico Speleologico Friulano il 13 dicembre 1964 fino alla profondità di -21 m. Nel maggio del 1967 G. Cobol raggiunse i -64 m di profondità, superati nello stesso anno da W. May, C. Hayes e S. Piccini, che raggiunsero la profondità di -80 m. Nel 1987 L. Russo e M. Martini scesero fino a -108 m. Il 31 dicembre 1992 le immersioni dello svizzero J.J. Bolanz e della sua équipe culminarono raggiungendo la quota di -131 m. In quest’ultima occasione L. Casati esplorò una diramazione tra -90 e -104 m. Sempre Casati ritornò con il suo team nel febbraio del 2008 e raggiunse la profondità di -212 m, facendo diventare il Gorgazzo all’epoca la cavità a sifone più profonda d’Italia. Nel 2019 lo speleosub polacco K. Starnawski esplorò fino a –222 m lasciando davanti a sé ancora grandi gallerie.
